KITCHENER — The Franklin Street bridge that spans Highway 8 began showing damage four years after it opened. It was closed this month to traffic just a dozen years after it opened.

Taxpayers are paying $500,000 on repairs after parts of the bridge failed prematurely, the provincial government says.

The Ministry of Transportation has not asked builder Dufferin Construction to shoulder repairs, saying the warranty expired one year after construction. Read More
