Burlington GO station delay = more over-promising and under-delivering on transit commitments

July 9, 2015

QUEEN’S PARK – Kitchener-Conestoga MPP and PC Transportation Critic, Michael Harris says the third delay of the Burlington GO station is more of the same for a Wynne Government that continues to over-promise and under-deliver on transit commitments across Ontario.

“While the Wynne Liberals keep promising LRT and transit infrastructure to other areas of the Province, Ms. Wynne and her rookie Minister of Transportation can’t even make good on the commitments that are already under construction,” said Harris. “The people of Ontario, the people of Burlington deserve better. Metrolinx promised the Burlington GO station would be complete by the spring of 2014, then it was pushed back to spring 2015, now we hear that it won’t be completed till next year.  This is unacceptable”

Harris questioned the ability of Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca to deliver government projects on budget and on time with glaring examples like the UP Express’ Bloor station and the ongoing repeated promises on all-day, two way GO service for the ‎people of Kitchener-Waterloo, with no sign of the commitment ever being delivered.

“Time and time again the Liberals show they are not accountable for their promises – this time proving that the riding of Burlington is simply not a priority for Premier Kathleen Wynne and her government.” Harris concluded.‎ “And it’s not just Burlington – residents across Ontario continue to wait in vain as the Wynne Liberals carry on making commitments they can’t keep.”
