THERECORD.COM – Auditor says it takes too long to clear snow from Ontario highways after storms

TORONTO — Ontario’s Liberal government was so bent on cutting costs for winter road maintenance that it gave contracts to companies that didn’t have the equipment to clear highways of snow, auditor general Bonnie Lysyk reported Wednesday.

“Ontario saved money on the winter maintenance of provincial highways over the last five years, but at a cost that included greater delays in clearing highways so that they were safe to drive during and after a storm,” Lysyk said in a special report. Read More
