Harris joins with IBC for Elmira Food Bank cheque presentationNovember 13, 2014
Elmira – Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris joined with Doug DeRabbie of the Insurance Bureau of Canada today to present a $2,500 cheque to the Elmira Food Bank.
“It’s always important at this time of year to help support these local programs that mean so much to those in need as the weather turns colder and resources become more scarce,” Harris said. “This funding will help support the Food Bank and its Christmas Goodwill program that provides families with food, as well as gifts and clothing for their children.”
The $2,500 cheque was presented to Woolwich Community Services who operate the Food Bank along with a wide array of other community support programs.
“IBC and its members have a long and proud history of working locally to make a difference,” said Doug DeRabbie, Director, Government Relations, Ontario, IBC. “We hope that this donation will go a long way to help those in need, particularly during this holiday season.”
Woolwich Community Services spoke to the importance of supporting community members at this time of year:
“The residents of Woolwich Township for many, many years have demonstrated their concern and compassion for their fellow community members by supporting the Christmas Goodwill drive. Families with limited income appreciate and are humbled by the community response. On behalf of everyone, we welcome the donation from the Insurance Bureau of Canada and appreciation Michael Harris’ endorsement of Woolwich Community Services.”
Recently, Ontario PC’s were successful in pushing government to Ontario to announce a new tax credit for farmers who donate their products to community food programs, including food banks and student nutrition programs.
The food donation tax credit for farmers will be valued at 25 per cent of the fair market value of the products they donate.
