Harris joins with IBC for cheque presentation to Food Bank of WaterlooNovember 13, 2014
Kitchener – Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris joined with Doug DeRabbie of the Insurance Bureau of Canada today to present a $2,500 cheque to the Food Bank of Waterloo.
“It’s always important at this time of year to help support these local programs that mean so much to those in need as the weather turns colder and resources become more scarce,” Harris said. “This funding will help support the Food Bank of Waterloo continue its good work along with its 82 member agencies and community food programs to help provide food for the less fortunate in our local communities.
“IBC and its members have a long and proud history of working locally to make a difference,” said Doug DeRabbie, Director, Government Relations, Ontario, IBC. “We hope that this donation will go a long way to help those in need, particularly during this holiday season.”
Last year in Waterloo Region the Food Bank distributed 91,796 emergency hampers, and served 522,327 meals.
“The Food Bank is 100% community supported. Amazing community partnerships make it possible to deliver food assistance for the 1 in 20 Waterloo Region residents needing help each year,” said Wendi Campbell, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. “This donation from the Insurance Bureau of Canada will provide 7,500 meals in our community. Thank you.”
Recently, Ontario PC’s were successful in pushing government to Ontario to announce a new tax credit for farmers who donate their products to community food programs, including food banks and student nutrition programs.
The food donation tax credit for farmers will be valued at 25 per cent of the fair market value of the products they donate.
