MPP Harris announces funding for Wilmot splash padMarch 22, 2014
BADEN – Today, Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris and the Ontario Trillium Foundation presented the Township of Wilmot with a $130,000 grant for a new splash pad in the community.
“I’m pleased to announce today that, with this grant, the township now has the necessary funding to design and build a state-of-the-art splash pad at the Wilmot Recreation Complex,” Harris said. “This moment would not have been possible without the hard work of the splash-pad committee and the leadership of Angie Hallman.”
The drive for a new splash pad in Wilmot began in August 2012 when Hallman first petitioned the local government to consider the idea. By the next summer, the project had reached a milestone when volunteers secured a $25,000 prize by winning the Kraft Celebration Tour competition. With a substantial amount of funding secured, the splash-pad committee received several more grants from local groups, including a contribution of $27,500 from the New Hamburg Optimist Club.
“The way that this project has brought members of the community together makes me proud to represent Wilmot in my riding of Kitchener-Conestoga,” Harris said. “I think the success of the splash-pad committee sets a great example for others in the future by showing that we all can improve our community if we set a realistic goal and work with others to achieve it.”
