The Record – Firefighters, MPP want clarity on cancer compensation legislation

WELLESLEY TOWNSHIP — Kitchener Conestoga MPP Michael Harris, who organized the roundtable discussion, is asking for clarity on the legislation so that more “double hatters” don’t leave the township fire departments. “Clearly there is a gap and there is uncertainty,” he said. Harris wants the government to clarify the legislation to ensure firefighters who work in both the city and rural departments are compensated appropriately if they are diagnosed with cancer. “They are not going to risk their benefits.
