KITCHENER — The Standing Committee on General Government will be holding a public hearing to review the Aggregate Resources Act in Kitchener next week, according to a draft itinerary released by the committee clerk’s office today.
The itinerary states the hearing will be held at the Holiday Inn on 30 Fairway Road South in Kitchener from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 9.
Before the public hearing, committee members will tour three sites in Waterloo Region, including:
- The Capital Paving Wellington Pit, which is now being rehabilitated,
- Lafarge Quarry, an active recycling depot, and,
- Preston Sand & Gravel – Snyder Flats, a site that helps create habitat and increase flood capacity in Grand River.
“This is a very positive step to ensuring a meaningful review of the Aggregate Resources Act,” Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris said. “Based on the number of current and future aggregate applications in Waterloo Region, it only makes sense for the committee to hear from local officials, residents and industry representatives in our community.”
